Quick take:

  • Billboard is dropping three NFT magazine covers in collaboration with World of Women.
  • The NFTs will be auctioned on FTX’s NFT marketplace later this month.
  • Part of the proceeds will benefit nonprofit organisations of each cover star’s choosing.

American music and entertainment magazine, Billboard, has partnered with World of Women (WoW) for three NFT magazine covers that celebrate three of the most iconic female singers in American pop music.

The announcement of this partnership was announced by Billboard’s editorial director Hannah Karp in a letter on Monday. She set the stage by saying that women “are still fighting for inclusion, representation, recognition and equal pay at the top of the music business, from recording studios to C-suites.”

Musing on whether the metaverse could be a more welcoming place for women in music, Karp said that Billboard’s decision to create NFT covers for its annual Women In Music issue was an effort to ensure that the virtual music world will be one of equality.

For this year’s Women In Music issue, Billboard has tapped World of Women creator, Yam Karkai, to create three NFT magazine covers featuring Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and Mariah Carey.

Billboard has unveiled the first cover celebrating Christina Aguilera and the second featuring Madonna. It has yet to announce the release date of the third cover.

The magazine chose to collaborate with WoW for its inclusive and empowering imagery aimed at welcoming women into the NFT space.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with World of Women and Yam Karkai for this monumental first for Billboard,” Julian Holguin, President of Billboard, said in a statement. ”The cultural significance of this partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment of championing women who are breaking down barriers and shaping culture within music and beyond,” he added.

The NFT magazine covers will be auctioned on FTX’s NFT marketplace later this month. Part of the proceeds will benefit nonprofit organisations of each cover star’s choosing.

Billboard will fly buyers of the NFT magazine covers to Los Angeles for its Women In Music celebration next year, where they’ll walk the red carpet alongside the magazine’s star honorees.

This is just one of a string of high-profile partnerships that WoW is involved in after being signed for representation by talent manager Guy Oseary. It has recently entered a storytelling partnership with Reese Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine.

Even Big Four accounting firm, KPMG Canada, couldn’t resist snapping up a WoW NFT. The company announced yesterday that it has completed the purchase of Woman #2681 for 25 ETH so that it would be well-positioned to guide their clients on corporate NFT strategy.

World of Women has generated over $200 million in trading volume and is set to launch a second collection, Galaxy of Women, this year. It is also working to support women artists around the globe by promoting their digital art.
