Leading sports software provider Stack Sports has leapt into the NFT space after collaborating with NEAR Foundation to launch an athlete-focused NFT platform built on NEAR’s proof-of-stake blockchain ecosystem.
The platform will give Stack Sports users like Sports Connect, CaptainU, Skyhawks, and Stack Team App an opportunity to create their first NFTs for free.
Brandon Shangraw VP of Marketing and Innovation at Stack Sports said the partnership was part of the company’s goal of exploring new ways to serve its sports partners and families.
“This athlete-focused NFT platform will allow our partners to access cutting edge innovation that was previously unavailable to our market. We see this as a huge value add for sports organizations and families,” he said.
Stack Sports is building on the momentum established over the years of adding value to sports brands. The platform already boasts “over 50 products and services designed to help organizations grow participation while transforming the experience for athletes.”
Kyle Lundon, VP of Product at Stack Sports highlighted NEAR’s proof-of-stake mechanism as part of the reason it was chosen for the project.
“With their focus on scalability, security, and a consumer-friendly user experience they are a layer one blockchain technology that can support sports at scale. Their leadership in this space has given us confidence they can support the ten million plus sports families we serve,” Lundon added.
The highly scalable NEAR blockchain allows projects to process hundreds of thousands of transactions per second, with lower transaction fees making it one of the fastest and cheapest ecosystems in the industry.
As a result, athletes will be able to create and mint carbon-neutral NFTs at low costs.
Josh Daniels Head of Funding at the NEAR Foundation said sports is one of the most promising spaces for innovation for NEAR blockchain. “We are excited to partner with Stack Sports who has the vision and depth of experience to develop an NFT platform for all athletes,” he said.
