After a rise in women-led NFT projects, we’ve seen a similar rise in anime projects. You already know I’m a huge anime fan myself, so I was really happy to see these developments in the NFT space. I’ve met a lot of talented anime NFT artists throughout my journey and one of these artists is LigthenBee.
It’s inspiring to have seen her journey from the start and she has come a long way since! From struggling to sell her first art piece to being almost completely sold out on every artwork she drops. The vibrant colors she uses combined with an element of movement in most of her work makes her work come to life. I’m always amazed by what she comes up with and will follow her progress throughout this space attentively. Now let’s travel together into the world of LightenBee!
Rei: Hi LightenBee, where does your awesome artist name come from?
LightenBee: When I was in high school, it was the name of my online game character. I was thinking about something like fireflies, but I forgot the word, so I went with LightenBee lol.
Rei: Tell us a little bit more about yourself in general!
LightenBee: My real name is Bee. My nickname is Peace, but I believe Bee will be easier to remember, and I believe it will work. I’m a Thai artist who graduated from Culinary Arts University. After a year of working, I decided to leave my full-time job to follow my dream which is just not having to overly work every single day.
Rei: When did you start making art and how did you evolve as an artist throughout the years?
LightenBee: I started drawing when I was very young, like primary school. I even remember myself write in my future plan that I want to be an artist and everyone was laughing at me but I was too young to be sad lol. After that there was a friend who invited me to make a drawing club and that’s what the thing that push me to draw more.
I started practicing with just a regular mouse for 4 years. I was really struggling but I had a lot of fun. Then I started working a part time job so I was be able to buy tablet for drawing. It was super crappy at first but after a lot of practicing (about 2-3 years) my skill was great enough to do some commission. But my skills actually improved a lot after I did NFTs (might be because of power of ETH).
Rei: It’s easy to spot that you’re an anime fan like myself! What are specific sources of inspiration for creating your art?
LightenBee: There was a lot of anime that inspired me and influenced my art style such as Madoka Magica, Kill la Kill, Reborn, Toradora, Ano Hana. I think you guys will be able to see the hints of each anime in my art style!
Rei: How long do you work on your art every day and how exactly does this process work?
LightenBee: Uhm, some days I could sit on my table and draw for 15 hours but other days I could just lay on my bed and do nothing. It depends on my feelings. I don’t know how it works too, but mostly I would finish my art in one week or less.
Rei: Do you have a certain vibe that you want to convey with your art?
LightenBee: There is a joke that I keep telling myself that I am always depressed and I think it speaks loudly through my arts. I’m not good at making bubbly happy art.
Rei: Since when did you start making NFTs of your art? How do you like the journey in the NFT space so far?
LightenBee: I started doing NFTs about in the middle of September 2021. I was really struggling at first. I started doing NFTs on OpenSea Polygon chain and I had to wait for half of a month to make my first sell. But after that everything seems to be easier. All of my NFTs are sold out by Japanese collectors and some are American artists.
Then after I gained enough courage, I started listing my first NFT on Foundation and it was the most depressing moment of my life. I didn’t received the first bid as soon as my expectations. It was really hard to make the first sell on FND for me, so I decided to a play game lol. I tweeted about the game that I was playing, then someone replied to me that they wanted to play with me and they mentioned that if they have enough liquidity, they would buy my NFT.
I didn’t believe them at first but I didn’t care and told them how to download that game lol. But then I remembered that I put my NFT on your tweet in which you post your favorites from the day and that person who wanted to play the game with me replied on that tweet that they had enough ETH. I was so shocked along with the notification of Gmail that told me that I received my first bid. I thanked him millions of times. He even helped me create a Discord server. He is so nice to me all the time. We are best friends since then.
Rei: Do you have any specific goals you want to achieve in the NFT space?
LightenBee: This is my secret okay? I want to make a sale on my NFT of 1 ETH or have it trending on FND’s home page. This is so embarrassing to say lmao!
Rei: Which artists do you look up to the most, in the NFT world and in general?
LightenBee: Salmon88 is my fav artist. Even our art style is so different, but that’s why I love his art so much!
Rei: Lastly, where can people find more about you and your art?
LightenBee: I have Twitter, Instagram and TikTok that’s now active. All of their handles are LightenBee.
