After announcing the integration of NFTs in Ghost Recon, partnering with many blockchain gaming projects and investing in Animoca Brands, Ubisoft keeps making noise in the NFT gaming space. This time they are bringing their infamous Rabbids in The Sandbox!
The Rabbids are getting ready to invade The Sandbox and make their first appearance in the Ubisodt Land. Work is already underway to create the voxelized versions of the Rabbids. By bringing these characters to The Sandbox Community, Ubisoft wants to see how players and creators will make the Rabbids’ world their own by incorporating them in their own custom experiences.
Given their wild nature, the Rabbids invasion of The Sandbox should be quite fun, noisy and maybe even destructive. Look out for some fun experiences to come there.
Ubisoft already owns some pretty large real estate in The Sandbox. The Rabbids will be the first ones to enter the metaverse, but given the interest shown by Ubisoft in NFT gaming we can expect to see more and more of Ubisoft’s IP (Intellectual Property) join in very soon.
“We’re excited to bring the Rabbids to The Sandbox community and to empower players to create their own original experiences incorporating elements of our gaming IP. We can’t wait to see how they make the Rabbids’ world their own. The Sandbox is an obvious new fun playground addition to the long list of Rabbids world invasions, and a great opportunity for Ubisoft to experiment a metaverse experience for its brands.
— Guillaume Mammi, Senior Manager of New Business and Partnerships at Ubisoft.
What is The Sandbox?
The Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently in development. The Sandbox consists of customizable lands with voxel based entities. Visually it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have this Lego-inspired look to them. However, players are able to buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, extensions of actual webshops, a space for social gatherings, and so on.
The Sandbox provides free tools for developers, gamers and content creators. Creators can use VoxEdit to create voxel-based objects for use in-game. And with the Game Maker users can make all sorts of interactive experiences! The Sandbox will also create a meta gaming experience. Players can for example do daily quests or weekly quests for their guild. This will earn players SAND, which they can sell or use to buy in-game items or virtual land.
