Avalanche has announced the launch of Avalanche9000 testnet, its largest upgrade since its mainnet launch in September 2020. The layer-1 blockchain also launched the “Retro9000” grant program that will be distributed as rewards to developers building layer-1 blockchain and other tools on the Avalanche9000 testnet.
The upgrade comes with major technical improvements tailored to lower the cost of chain deployment on the network by 99.9%, the company said in a press release on Monday.
One of the improvements is the ACP-77 proposal, which aims to make Avalanche layer-1 validators more flexible, while another, the ACO-125 reduces the base fee by 96% and also simplifies customization and enhances maintenance.
The upgrade also supports Interchain Messaging, enabling developers to benefit from L1s that communicate with each other, allowing them to share collective interoperability and build network effects, Avalanche wrote in a post on its website.
According to Avalanche, its network boasts over 500 L1s that are already being developed on the testnet and mainnet. The L1s host a range of applications and protocols including community-run gaming, payment solutions for small businesses, and institutional research, with more verticals continually being added.
The Retro9000 program kicks off with a $2 million reward program that rewards users after sharing a referral code, which is generated after connecting their wallets.
