Quick take:
- The companies will collaborate to build an infrastructure to deliver open AI services, NFTgators has learned.
- The alliance’s primary goal is to create an ecosystem that provides access to secure, open, economical and fair AI services.
- The alliance draws parallels to the Open Metaverse Alliance formed in July 2022.
Leading crypto companies Coinbase, NEAR and others have come together to form the Open Agents Alliance (OAA), an organisation dedicated to developing “Open AI Services”, NFTgators has learned.
Formed by NEAR AI, Coinase’s payments and AI arm and several other blockchain and AI companies, the organisation will collaborate to build an infrastructure for delivering open AI services that are secure, economical and fair.
This is not the first time a group of leading blockchain companies have come together to build an alliance that is dedicated to creating an open infrastructure for delivering services. In July 2022, Animoca Brands, Decentraland, The Sandbox, Dapper Labs and others teamed up to launch the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3).
The Open Agents Alliance offer a combined infrastructure to participating members for AI tools deployment, including AI agent frameworks, cloud hosting and on/off-ramps to fiat and crypto.
The report comes out amid the rapid growth of the AI sector driven by the emergence of generative AI apps like OpenAI’s GPT-4o, DeepSeek, Google’s Gemini and Meta’s Llama-3, among others.
While these apps have demonstrated a great level of learning ability and efficiency, they continue to draw criticism amid rising privacy and security concerns.
Web3 AI has emerged over the past couple of years as a more ‘secure’ alternative that also promotes an equitable economic model for contributors and users.
