Quick take:
- Sébastien Badault’s arrival at Ledger comes weeks after former Chief Digital Officer at LVMH Ian Rogers.
- Badault will be responsible for developing metaverse and NFT related activities.
- He hopes that Ledger will be the go-to wallet for Web 3.
Hardware wallet company Ledger has appointed former director of Alibaba France, Sébastien Badault, as Vice-President of metaverse and Web 3. Coming from an e-commerce background, Badault has previously spent almost 10 years at Google, six of which as sales director for France, and five years at Amazon.
His arrival at the Ledger comes weeks after former Chief Digital Officer at LVMH Ian Rogers joined the company as Chief Experience Officer. The two men have previously worked together on a common project. Badault is also acquainted with Ledger Chairman and CEO Pascal Gauthier as Amazon was a customer of European price comparison service, Kelkoo.
In his new role, Badault will be responsible for developing metaverse and NFT related activities for the company. This includes helping creators, brands, collectors and video game players to create metaverse services as well as securing their digital assets.
While the Ledger wallet – a small device that resembles a USB flash drive – is known for storing cryptocurrency, Badault said that many customers are unaware that they can secure their NFTs on it. By positioning itself in Web 3 and the metaverse, Ledger hopes to diversify its services.
By combining Web 3 and security services, Ledger hopes to help luxury brands better understand this ecosystem. “What I love about all of this is that in Web 1 you identify yourself with a password, in Web 2 with Facebook and in Web 3 with a wallet, “ says Badault, who hopes that Ledger will be the go-to wallet for Web 3.
Badault’s move to Ledger is just one instance of a growing trend in top talents from tech giants jumping ship to Web 3. However, the Web 3 space has also opened its doors to professionals with media experience.
Today, UK crypto wallet Zumo announced that it has hired former CEO of Singapore media investment company Group M, James Chadwick, as strategic board advisor.
Also joining Zumo alongside Chadwick, Jeff Carvalho – co-founder of online streetwear and lifestyle magazine, Highsnobiety and Web 3 project Burrata – will advise the company on brand placement with a focus on storytelling, strategy and product development.
