American entertainment company AMC Networks has teamed up with NFT production company Orange Comet to unleash a wave of NFTs on fans of hit TV series, ‘The Walking Dead’.
The NFTs will be released in multiple drops throughout the final season of the show. The first drop will take place on Feb 20 at 1pm ET to coincide with part two of the show’s expanded final season premiere, airing on the same night at 9pm ET on AMC.
The first collection includes 10,000 generative art pieces featuring iconic characters from ‘The Walking Dead’ – past and present – priced at $50 each. There will also be 750 original animations inspired by scenes from ‘The Walking Dead’, selling at $250 each. The NFTs can be purchased via cards or cryptocurrency on Orange Comet’s marketplace, powered by Eluvio’s eco-friendly blockchain technology.
Additionally, Orange Comet will also offer ultra-rare NFTs of “Walker Access Passes” priced at $311 each. The 1/1 NFTs will be available to purchase for only 24 hours, and will not be available after the 24-hour-time window. The Walker Access Passes will grant buyers access to future ‘The Walking Dead’ NFT drops.
“As the ‘Walking Dead’ flagship series enters into its final stretch this year, we are excited to provide our hordes of passionate fans with a unique, new way to celebrate the series they’ve loved for the past 11 seasons,” said Kim Kelleher, president, commercial revenue and partnerships at AMC.
The subsequent NFT drops will eventually culminate in the launch of a virtual world where fans can gather to buy, sell and trade their NFTs. While ‘The Walking Dead’ is coming to an end, the network hints at potential spinoffs as the virtual world will include NFTs based on characters and content from additional and upcoming series in the zombie-apocalypse franchise.
“‘The Walking Dead’s’ stunning imagery, incredible array of characters and epic scope provides an inspiring and collaborative canvas for Orange Comet to continue its best-in-class, creative-first approach to the development of NFTs,” said Dave Broome, co-founder and CEO of Orange Comet.
Broom says that Orange Comet has about 40 employees, and all of the creative design and 3D animations are produced in-house. “That’s the key to this stuff,” he said. “To me, [NFTs] are a game of providing the best content — the best creative wins.”
