Quick take:

  • The shoppable NFT art gallery is scattered throughout 10 different locations in downtown Cleveland.
  • NBA fans can visit any of the locations to register their interest in the NFTs.
  • Part of the proceeds will go to the Funders Collaborative on COVID Recovery.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has unveiled its 2022 All-Star Court NFT today as one of the limited-edition collectibles in the league’s NFT collection. The court pays homage to the league’s 75th anniversary season alongside the city of Cleveland and its rich history.

This comes after the Cleveland Cavaliers announced the launch of its “My Cavs Locker” NFT experience on Wednesday.

Cleveland’s first-ever city-wide shoppable NFT art gallery was also unveiled alongside the NFT. The gallery is scattered around 10 different locations in downtown Cleveland where NBA fans can go on a treasure hunt to find and scan a QR code to register their interest in the NFT collection, which will be available for purchase on Feb 7.

The NFTs showcase the history of NBA All-Star in Ohio through the courts the games have been played on, represented as limited-edition digital collectibles. Each court will be displayed as part of NBA All-Star artwork covering one of the 10 shoppable NFT art gallery locations in Cleveland.

“We’re allowing our fans to own a piece of that story for the first time. That’s why we’re calling it the first-ever shoppable NFT art gallery,” said Joey Graziano, NBA’s senior vice president for business operations and global events, to Cleveland.com. “Our imagination for this is just as you visit any art gallery around the world. Our fans can now go, look at the buildings they call home, see those buildings dressed with NBA art, and in an instant buy a piece of that art via a digital collectible NFT.”

The courts will then be digitally replicated as NFT art in their original form, the “NBA Edition,” as well as in a 75th Anniversary “Diamond Edition.” Purchase of the “Diamond Edition” comes with a physical mini replica of the court.

Designs in the NFT collection include the NBA All-Star 1966 court from Cincinnati Gardens, NBA All-Star 1981 court from Richfield Coliseum, NBA All-Star 1997 court from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, NBA All-Star 2022 court featuring the signature wine and yellow colours of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and an exclusive 75th-anniversary court design.

The NBA will be giving $100,000 from the NFT sale to the Funders Collaborative on COVID Recovery, a non-profit that helps support the Cleveland community as it recovers from the economic and social impacts of COVID-19.

Fans will find the QR codes at various locations including Tower City Center entrances at Public Square and Huron Road, JACK Cleveland Casino Skywalk, RTA’s B-Line Trolleys, The 9’s digital boards overlooking E. 9th Street, The Arcade, Gateway District wallscapes and Gateway Plaza next to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
