Twitter, the de facto social media platform for the greater NFT community, has unveiled a new NFT profile picture verification feature. Introduced today and available only to those who have subscribed to Twitter Blue, NFT PFPs will allow some users to use NFTs they own as their profile pictures.
This latest news comes only months after Twitter launched its first-ever NFT collection, and began testing out this new PFP feature. Currently, the feature is only available on iOS, and uses a simplified crypto-wallet connection app that allows users to choose a PFP from their personal NFT collections.
Hot on the heels of Meta’s latest efforts to become involved in the NFT ecosystem, Twitter has now solidified its position as the leading social media platform for the discovery of and discourse surrounding NFTs. As countless companies have announced plans to join the NFT marketplace race, Twitter seems to be taking a community-first approach to the new creator economy being established through blockchain technology.
Those who have subscribed to Twitter Blue can now simply enter the profile picture editing mode to begin the NFT verification process. NFT profile pictures will appear different than normal PFPs, with a hexagonal border rather than the standard circle.
With the launch of its new feature, Twitter has helped validate not only NFTs as a major facet of pop culture, but the NFT community as a whole. Featuring a new ad campaign rolled out in conjunction with profile-picture verification, Twitter has tapped influential artists and builders Bobby Hundreds, Farokh, Micah Johnson, BettyNFT, and more to be the new faces of NFT PFPs.
